Avery Elle – July AEI♥U Challenge

Hello friends!

I wanted to share a card that I’m entering into the Avery Elle – July AEI♥U Challenge – almost missed this one, but loved the inspiration image and knew I had to play along.

The diagonal straws and the colour palette on this image are awesome, and that’s what I wanted to include on my card.

I started by creating some coloured panels using Distress Inks in Worn Lipstick, Salty Ocean and Mustard Seed. I cut the panels down into thin strips and diagonally aligned them in alternate colours on a piece of scrap paper.

I put the two panels of diagonal strips next to each other, and die-cut the shape out using the leaf die from Spellbinders Layered Poinsettia. I used the same die to draw around on a piece of black card stock, cut it out and foam mounted my striped leaf die-cut onto it.

I embellished the leaf with some iridescent, transparent sequins and topped with gemstones for some added dimension. The sentiment comes from Avery Elle’s Merry and Bright stamp set.
