MFT November Release – Card 5

Hello there!

Just popping by to share one final card using product from the MFT November Release:

©Candles in the Garden. MFT November Release - Card 5. Bold Diagonal Stripes Background and Stitched Star STAX.

How quickly did this come together?! Well, I literally swiped several Distress Ink cubes onto the Bold Diagonal Stripes Background, spritzed with water, and stamped onto a panel of white cardstock. That’s how quickly 😉

©Candles in the Garden. MFT November Release - Card 5. Bold Diagonal Stripes Background and Stitched Star STAX.

Misting a bit of water really helped the ink move a little, and also helped me get a decent impression – I don’t mind that its not crisp, as that wasn’t the look I was going for…

©Candles in the Garden. MFT November Release - Card 5. Bold Diagonal Stripes Background and Stitched Star STAX.

I trimmed the panel out and stamped a sentiment from Hand Lettered Holiday with black dye ink into the top right hand corner. I then adhered the panel straight down onto a white card base.

©Candles in the Garden. MFT November Release - Card 5. Bold Diagonal Stripes Background and Stitched Star STAX.

I used the two largest dies from the Stitched Star STAX Die-Namics to die-cut a star several times out of white cardstock. I adhered them all together to make a thicker embellishment and then brushed on lots of Gold Wink of Stella.

I adhered the star to the card front, and then covered it with Glossy Accents. Then waited ages for it to dry, but the result is so shiny and sparkly! To finish, I added a couple of clear sequins.

Runway Inspired Challenge #90

Hello there and welcome to this week’s Runway Inspired Challenge! We have another awesome inspiration photo and the chance to win a prize from Ellen Hutson.

Here’s my card:

©Candles in the Garden. RIC90 - Sponsored by Ellen Hutson, using Waffle Flower Stamps.

I chose to go for a really clean and simple take on this week’s challenge, though there are so many gorgeous ways that the model’s outfit can be interpreted! I was drawn to the colourways in the bottom half of the dress and began by tracing around an oval die onto a piece of white cardstock as a guide for stamping the floral wreath.

©Candles in the Garden. RIC90 - Sponsored by Ellen Hutson, using Waffle Flower Stamps.

I stamped a sentiment from Clearly Besotted’s Love Blossoms set in the centre of the oval guideline and then stamped images from Waffler Flower’s Loved set with Distress Inks.

©Candles in the Garden. RIC90 - Sponsored by Ellen Hutson, using Waffle Flower Stamps.

I trimmed the panel down to slightly smaller than my card base and then foam mounted to the front. I also stamped the two roundest flowers with yellow dye ink onto a separate piece of cardstock and used the co-ordinating dies to cut them out.

The flowers were then foam mounted to the card and I brushed with clear Wink of Stella before coating with Glossy Accents.

To finish, I added some gold and pink enamel dots!

Neat and Tangled collaborates with Freckled Fawn

Hey there,

Just popping by to share a card for the Neat & Tangled collaboration with Freckled Fawn and their awesome range of embellishments.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled collaboration with Freckled Fawn.

The Classic White Doilies from Freckled Fawn are crying out for some inkage (is that a word?!) and I couldn’t wait to try out one of my favourite techniques on them. Basically, smoosh a couple of Distress Ink colours onto a craft mat, spritz with water and then lay the doily into the inky puddles.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled collaboration with Freckled Fawn.

I heat set the doily and repeated the process a few times until I achieved the desired result – I didn’t want all of it covered with ink but just enough to give me a base for the sentiment.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled collaboration with Freckled Fawn.

I thought the large sentiment from Be Full was just the right size and stamped it with black dye ink onto the doily and also onto a square card base. I did this because the holes in the doily made it slightly harder to read the sentiment but by adhering it to the card with a couple of glue dots, I was able to match up the stamped impressions and make it appear more complete (hope that makes sense!).

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled collaboration with Freckled Fawn.

I adhered a small twine bow to the top of the doily and added a cork star with another glue dot.

To finish, I adhered a couple of sequins from the Sunset Shimmer mix.

Runway Inspired Challenge #81

Hello there and welcome to this week’s Runway Inspired Challenge! We have another awesome inspiration photo and the chance to win a prize from Bossy Joscie.

Here’s my card:

Can you believe, I created that background with lots of tiny triangles?!!! I used the Tiny Triangle die from Neat & Tangled on various coloured cardstock and began by adhering each triangle onto a piece of paper which had been covered in glue runner. I thought the end result echoed the model’s dress beautifully!

©Candles in the Garden. RIC81 - Die-cut triangles inlaid to form a pattern. Bossy Joscie Flair.

After I was happy with the pattern I’d achieved with my tiny triangles, I die-cut a circle out of it – this also helps flatten the triangles and secure them in place. On a white card base, I stamped the Geotag image from Simon Says Stamp with Orange Peel ink. I then stamped a sentiment from Paper Smooches Word Salad beneath it with black dye ink.

©Candles in the Garden. RIC81 - Die-cut triangles inlaid to form a pattern. Bossy Joscie Flair.

I foam mounted the die-cut circle / triangle pattern on the top half of the geotag and then foam mounted a small Bossy Joscie flair piece on top of that to finish!

I thought I’d also show you the gorgeous, personalised stamp that I purchased from Joscelyne, and how I plan to use it:

©Candles in the Garden. Personalised stamp from Bossy Joscie.

I end up with lots of scraps of watercolour / distress ink experiments and can’t bear to throw them away. So instead, I’m going to trim them up and stamp ‘Handmade by Mayuri’ with black ink on top. They’ll probably go inside any cards that I give away or send.

Here’s my card:

©Candles in the Garden. RIC78 - Inlaid die-cutting with CAS-ual Fridays Heartboard Fri-Dies.

It took me a while to crack this one…I liked the diagonal stripes on the model’s outfit, but was really struggling with the colour – is it red? Is it orange? I went for both, just to be on the safe side 😉

©Candles in the Garden. RIC78 - Inlaid die-cutting with CAS-ual Fridays Heartboard Fri-Dies.

I pulled out one of my favourite dies – the Heart Board Fri-Dies from CAS-ual Fridays – and used it to die-cut several (more like hundreds!) of hearts out of five shades of paper, ranging from a red foil cardstock through to an orange, and finally white. I separated all the die-cut pieces and put them into piles on my desk, before inlaying them back together again in a multicoloured order. Here’s a closeup:

©Candles in the Garden. RIC78 - Inlaid die-cutting with CAS-ual Fridays Heartboard Fri-Dies.

I did this four times, adhering the inlaid hearts onto scraps of paper so that they would be easier to work with when mounting them to a piece of white cardstock. I arranged each fully composed heart in a sort of cross and then ran the whole thing through my die-cutting machine with a frame die from Avery Elle’s Finished Frames set.

©Candles in the Garden. RIC78 - Inlaid die-cutting with CAS-ual Fridays Heartboard Fri-Dies.

I foam mounted the panel to a card base on moved onto the sentiment…another stumbling block! I tried stacked sentiments, long sentiments, word dies…everything, before I ended up going with a really cute one from Mama Elephant’s Confetti set.

©Candles in the Garden. RIC78 - Inlaid die-cutting with CAS-ual Fridays Heartboard Fri-Dies.

I stamped the sentiment with black ink on to a matching piece of cardstock, trimmed it out with a circle die, and foam mounted it to the card front with a paisley wood veneer embellishment.

Runway Inspired Challenge #74

Hello there and welcome to this week’s Runway Inspired Challenge! We have another awesome inspiration photo and the chance to win a prize from Ellen Hutson.

I had so many ideas for this one (watercolour, distress inks, colour blocking) but decided to go with some heat embossing / resist. Here’s my card:

©Candles in the Garden. RIC74. Inlaid die-cutting and embellished butterfly (Wink of Stella and Glossy Accents).

I began by stamping the various doily images from WPlus9’s Damask Doilies set onto a piece of white cardstock with Versamark Ink. I sprinkled with white embossing powder and heat set.

©Candles in the Garden. RIC74. Inlaid die-cutting and embellished butterfly (Wink of Stella and Glossy Accents).

I then made a few puddles of ink on my craft mat with Spiced Marmalade and Wild Honey Distress Inks, spritzed with water and laid the embossed cardstock into it. I repeated this process until the non-heat embossed areas were saturated with colour.

©Candles in the Garden. RIC74. Inlaid die-cutting and embellished butterfly (Wink of Stella and Glossy Accents).

Once the panel was dry, I sponged some Delicata Golden Glitz ink over the doilies for a bit of added sparkle (looks great in real life, but I couldn’t pick it up in my photos!). To clean up, I wiped off the excess ink from the embossed areas. I trimmed the panel at an angle and die-cut the word ‘Grateful’ using Penny Black’s Words of Gratitude.

©Candles in the Garden. RIC74. Inlaid die-cutting and embellished butterfly (Wink of Stella and Glossy Accents).

I used the same die to cut the word out of some brown shimmer cardstock a few times and adhered them together to create a thicker die-cut. The embossed / coloured panel was adhered straight down onto a white card base and then slotted the die-cut word into place.

©Candles in the Garden. RIC74. Inlaid die-cutting and embellished butterfly (Wink of Stella and Glossy Accents).

To finish up, I added a wood veneer butterfly, which was first coloured with co-ordinating Copic markers. I then went over it with some clear Wink of Stella before adding a generous amount of Glossy Accents. This gives you a really cute, epoxy resin like embellishment!

Diwali Blog Hop 2014

Hello and welcome to the Diwali Blog Hop for 2014, arranged by the wonderful Chaitali Narla. Hopefully, you have arrived from Gayatri’s blog and after me, you’re next stop is Smriti(This is my second post for today – please scroll down if you’re looking for my Neat & Tangled October Release Day 1 post – thank you!)

We are all blog-hopping today to celebrate Diwali, the festival of lights! Join in and participate in the hop to learn more about the festival and see some beautiful ethnic creations! I remember when I was younger, I celebrated by creating fun rangoli patterns with different colour powders (I think that’s why I still create patterns now ;-)) Here’s my offering – more of a non-traditional Diwali card, but still full of bright colours:

©Candles in the Garden. Diwali Blog hop 2014. Pattern created using Fabulous Fuchsias from Clearly Besotted Stamps.

I used one of the fuschia images from Clearly Besotted’s Fabulous Fuschias set and repeatedly stamped them round a circle, in a variety of Distress Inks.

©Candles in the Garden. Diwali Blog hop 2014. Pattern created using Fabulous Fuchsias from Clearly Besotted Stamps.

I don’t own any traditional Diwali stamps, but to be honest, you can create a pattern from most stamp sets to achieve this look.

©Candles in the Garden. Diwali Blog hop 2014. Pattern created using Fabulous Fuchsias from Clearly Besotted Stamps.

I created the sentiment on my computer, printed it onto some white card and trimmed it out. I die-cut a circle from some gold cardstock and punched a heart shape out of the middle.

The gold piece and the sentiment were both foam mounted to the card base and embellished with co-ordinating sequins. I hope you’ll hop along with us to celebrate this amazing festival – in case you missed a stop, here’s the entire blog hop list – thanks for stopping by!

Neat & Tangled September Release, Day 3: My Plate is Full

Hello, hello!

It’s the third day of the Neat & Tangled September release, and we are showcasing another holiday season stamp set.

Day 3 is for My Plate is Full and it is perfect for all your cardmaking, scrapbooking and journaling needs! (I used a sentiment from here on yesterday’s card) 🙂

NTPlate is Full

Here’s my card:

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled SEP14 Release - Day 3. My Plate is Full.

I gravitated towards the cutlery shapes and began by stamping with the backs of these images in Distress Inks. This creates a kind of a halo for the next step, which is to stamp the images the right way round, but in black ink.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled SEP14 Release - Day 3. My Plate is Full.

I love this technique, because you can stretch your stamps so much further! I used the more muted, autumnal colours to echo the theme of the stamp set, but again, they can be changed up quite easily to suit different types of cards.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled SEP14 Release - Day 3. My Plate is Full.

In the above photo, you can see where I went over the images with a thick coat of Glossy Accents – I didn’t think the card needed much more than this and actually makes a really effective one layer card.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled SEP14 Release - Day 3. My Plate is Full.

The sentiment was also stamped in the same black ink and finished up the card!

And here’s the card I created:

©Candles in the Garden. RIC68. Hand carved stamps, wood veneer and sequins.

I began by stamping the background pattern with a hand carved stamp and Vintage Photo Distress Ink, and once that was dry, I dripped a few ink splats with white acrylic paint.

©Candles in the Garden. RIC68. Hand carved stamps, wood veneer and sequins.

I then set about creating a collage of wood veneer, sentiments and hemp twine…I spent ages arranging and rearranging the elements until I was happy!

©Candles in the Garden. RIC68. Hand carved stamps, wood veneer and sequins.

I relied on the colours from the inspiration photo to create the ensemble – the sentiment comes from Mama Elephant’s Up and Away stamp set and was heat embossed in white onto a speech bubble die-cut.

©Candles in the Garden. RIC68. Hand carved stamps, wood veneer and sequins.

To finish, I added a few sequins and some wood veneer stars.

Winnie and Walter July Release, Day 3: The Big, The Bold and Seasons

Hello, hello! It’s the third day of the Winnie & Walter July release, and you’re in for another treat!

weblogo

Day 3 is for The Big, The Bold and Seasons which not only has the signature large, scripty words but also some cute supporting images! I gave you a sneak peak of them on the card I made for Day 1 of the July release 😉

©Candles in the Garden. Winnie and Walter JUL14 Release - Day 3. The Big, The Bold and Seasons.

I know, I know, its not Christmas yet, but I couldn’t resist inking up the little snowflake from the set for this one! I kinda knew where I wanted to go with this card so began by drawing round a circle die onto a piece of white cardstock as a guide.

©Candles in the Garden. Winnie and Walter JUL14 Release - Day 3. The Big, The Bold and Seasons.

Using three colours of Distress Inks, I stamped the snowflake around the circle guideline to create a symmetrical pattern. I die-cut the centre with the circle die and adhered some acetate to the back to begin my shaker card.

©Candles in the Garden. Winnie and Walter JUL14 Release - Day 3. The Big, The Bold and Seasons.

On my card base, I stamped one of the pennants from Scenery: It’s a Wonderful Pennant with green inks. They were supposed to look like trees in the distance and show through the shaker element of the card 😉

©Candles in the Garden. Winnie and Walter JUL14 Release - Day 3. The Big, The Bold and Seasons.

I added foam squares all around the edge of the circle and on the back of the inked panel before pouring some glitter onto the acetate and adhering to the card base. I used my Silhouette Cameo to die-cut the word ‘winter’ from the co-ordinating cut files.

©Candles in the Garden. Winnie and Walter JUL14 Release - Day 3. The Big, The Bold and Seasons.

I heat embossed a supporting sentiment in white onto a scrap of cardstock that had been cover with the same Distress Inks and foam mounted under the larger sentiment. I embellished with some gemstones around the snowflake wreath to finish up the card.

Don’t forget to check out the projects from Diane Jaquay and Jenny Martin, who are our guest stars for this release as they won the Playdate No. 2 challenge, Julie and Shay on the Winnie & Walter blog, and the rest of the Winnie & Walter talent:
