Winnie and Walter January / February Release, Day 4

Hey everyone!

Today is the fourth and final day of the January / February release from Winnie & Walter, and it ends with another fabulous mix of stamp and die sets!

Day 4 is the premiere of Welcome to the Family with Evelin T Designs (stamps and cutaways, Typecast: Cary Letters Cutaways and Typecast: Cary Numbers Cutaways. Here’s my card:

©Candles in the Garden. Winnie and Walter Jan / Feb 2017 Release / Day 4

I began by creating a background panel, using a piece of acetate and some reinkers. First, I added a couple of purple and yellow ink droplets onto a piece of acetate, spritzed with water and then smooshed it onto a piece of white cardstock. I did this a couple of times until I’d reached the desired effect.

©Candles in the Garden. Winnie and Walter Jan / Feb 2017 Release / Day 4

I heat set the panel, die cut it to the same size as my card base and then adhered it to the card front. I then stamped a sentiment and some small hearts from Welcome to the Family with black dye ink.

©Candles in the Garden. Winnie and Walter Jan / Feb 2017 Release / Day 4

I stamped the elephant critter and the box from the same set onto patterned paper, adding some shading with copic markers before fussy cutting each element out. I foam mounted them to the card front to finish off!

Winnie & Walter: Black Friday!

Hi there – just popping by to sharing a card showcasing the limited edition stamp set In Bloom: Julie’s Roses. If you spend over $35 during the Black Friday sale, you get the set free! Here’s what I came up with:

©Candles in the Garden. Winnie & Walter Black Friday, November 2016. In Bloom: Julie's Roses.

The large, solid images in this stamp set made me want to take out my Dylusions Ink Sprays again, but this time to stamp with, rather than spray. This is a technique I’ve used before and its great fun, because within a matter of minutes, you can whip up a super cool floral background!

©Candles in the Garden. Winnie & Walter Black Friday, November 2016. In Bloom: Julie's Roses.

I began by lightly spritzing a piece of watercolour paper with water and then stamping straight into the damp areas with the solid images, first with Postbox Red and then with Dirty Martini. As you can imagine, the ink moves around quite quickly once it touches the water – the aim here is not to get the perfect impression of the stamp, but rather a loose interpretation of it.

©Candles in the Garden. Winnie & Walter Black Friday, November 2016. In Bloom: Julie's Roses.

I heat set the panel and then stamped over the colourful areas with the actual rose images using Versafine Onyx Black Ink. This helped to add definition to the vibrant watercolours underneath. I also took a white gel pen to add a little highlight to some of the areas before trimming the panel down to slightly smaller than my card base.

©Candles in the Garden. Winnie & Walter Black Friday, November 2016. In Bloom: Julie's Roses.

I foam mounted the panel to the white card base and moved onto the sentiment. I stamped the small greeting onto a piece of black cardstock with Versamark Ink, sprinkled with white embossing powder and heat set. I then adhered the sentiment strip to the card front and finished up with a few gold sequins.

Neat & Tangled November Release, Day 3: Star Coverplate and Stencil

Hello, hello!

It’s the third day of the Neat & Tangled November release, and we are showcasing some more fabulous products!

NT Release Graphic.jpg

Day 3 is for the Star Coverplate and Stencil, both equally as gorgeous as each other. I played with the coverplate to whip up a simple birthday card:

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled November 2016 Release. Star Coverplate.

I began by creating a Distress Ink background and heat set to dry. I then ran the Star coverplate through my die-cutting machine three times with white cardstock and glued each piece together to form a thicker embellishment.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled November 2016 Release. Star Coverplate.

I then trimmed a section out of the centre and adhered it to the Distress Ink panel. I foam mounted this to a white card base and then used the Journalling Alpha Numbers to die-cut the 45 and adhered it down.

I also ran the coverplate through some Copper foil cardstock and used some of the pieces to fill in the design on the card front.

To finish up, I sprinkled with a few Merlot Mix sequins. Here’s my second card, this time using the Star Stencil:

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled November 2016 Release. Star Stencil.

I taped the stencil down on top of a panel of white cardstock and simply sponged through two shades of Distress Ink, being careful not to take the ink all the way to the edges.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled November 2016 Release. Star Stencil.

I then adhered the panel down to a white card base and looked for matching pattern paper for the tree embellishments. These were die-cut using the Scandinavian Christmas Prints dies and foam mounted to the card front.

The sentiment comes from the co-ordinating Scandinavian Christmas Prints set and was stamped with Versamark onto a piece of black cardstock, sprinkled with white embossing powder and heat set.

The sentiment was trimmed down and also foam mounted to the card front. To finish, I added some Gold Mix sequins.

Pixie Paints and Stencils

Hey there,

Just popping by to share a card for the Neat & Tangled collaboration with Cosmo Cricket, and their amazing Pixie Paints. These little bottles of coloured powder pack a huge punch and I had so much fun playing with them:

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled collaboration with Cosmo Cricket. Pixie Paints and stencils

I began by creating a fun background panel – firstly, I spritzed a piece of lightweight watercolour paper with water, then laid down the Geometric Blooms stencil on top before tapping out some of the Harbor coloured Pixie Paint.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled collaboration with Cosmo Cricket. Pixie Paints and stencils

The paint reacted beautifully with the stencil and the water – I removed the stencil and spritzed a little more water to move the paint around a bit more, and heat set the panel when I was happy.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled collaboration with Cosmo Cricket. Pixie Paints and stencils

I trimmed the panel down and foam mounted to a white card base before stamping the skunk from the Little Stinker set with Versafine Onyx Black ink, all ready to colour in!

I used some ZIG Clean Color Real Brush Pens to colour in the little animal, stamped a sentiment from the same set, trimmed him out and foam mounted him to the card front.

To finish off, I added some sequins from the Gold Mix selection. I hope you’ll stop by the Neat & Tangled blog for more inspiration!

MFT December Release – Countdown Day 5

Hey everyone!

Thanks for joining me at the start of December release week for My Favorite Things!

NewReleaseCountdown_Day5

For Countdown Day 5, we’re showcasing Birdie Brown’s Adorable Elephants Stamp Set and Die-Namics, and the Stitched Mini Scallop Circle, Rectangle, Square and Oval STAX Die-namics! Here’s my card:

©Candles in the Garden. MFT December Release Countdown Day 5. Stitched Mini Scallop Square STAX Die-namics.

You must know by now how much I love to stretch the use of my dies, and this card is no exception. I also like playing with inlaid die-cutting and that’s how I created this card – I began by die-cutting a series of frames using the Stitched Mini Scallop Square STAX Die-namics.

©Candles in the Garden. MFT December Release Countdown Day 5. Stitched Mini Scallop Square STAX Die-namics.

I basically left them all intact so that one die was sitting within another, from largest to smallest, secured them with some washitape and die-cut them from some white cardstock.

©Candles in the Garden. MFT December Release Countdown Day 5. Stitched Mini Scallop Square STAX Die-namics.

I then colour each frame with some ZIG Clean Color Real Brush Pens and then inlaid them back together again on to a sticky surface. Then, I die-cut the piece once more, but this time with the Stitched Mini Scallop Circle STAX Die-namics to give me two semi-circles.

I foam mounted each half to a card base and stamped a sentiment from Adorable Elephants in the centre, along with some flowers and a butterfly.

I coloured the butterfly with the same markers and added some detail with a white gel pen to finish!

Scored Shapes: Happiest Birthday to You

Hello there!

I’m over at the Neat & Tangled blog today to share a card using the new, Scored Shapes dies and a sentiment from Happiest Birthday.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled September 2015 Monthly Post. Scored Shapes Dies.

I can see myself having so much fun with these dies – I left them intact for this particular project, but used individually opens up even more possibilities!

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled September 2015 Monthly Post. Scored Shapes Dies.

I took a panel of watercolour paper that already had some inky goodness on it (I never throw anything away!) and simply ran the Scored Shapes dies through it, setting aside the positive pieces. On the main panel, I stamped a sentiment from Happiest Birthday with Versafine Onyx Black ink.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled September 2015 Monthly Post. Scored Shapes Dies.

On a white card base, I sponged some Delicata Golden Glitz ink in the areas that would show through the die cut spaces on the watercolour panel. To intensify the gold, I brushed some gold Perfect Pearls over the ink and misted lightly with water to set.

I foam mounted the die cut watercolour panel to the card base, revealing the gold through the apertures. I then adhered some of the positive pieces to the front along with matching sequins from the Sunset Shimmer sequin mix.

You could easily replicate this card with patterned paper, Gelli prints or anything that is lying around in your craft room 😉

MFT September Release – Countdown Day 2

Hello there!

Welcome to another day of exciting previews from the My Favorite Things September Release!

NewReleaseCountdown_Day2

For Countdown Day 2, we’re showcasing the gorgeous Soda Pop stamp set and Bottles Die-Namics; the Bottlecaps Die-Namics; the Bottlecap Letters and Numbers Die-Namics (all from Laina Lamb Designs), and finally, the Concentric Circle Grid stencil. Here’s my card:

©Candles in the Garden. MFT September Release Countdown Day 2. Soda Pop Bottles stamp set and Die-Namics.

I began by die-cutting the soda pop bottle out of several colours of cardstock and then arranging them in rainbow order on a card front. I drew some guidelines to help me position them accurately around a half-circle.

©Candles in the Garden. MFT September Release Countdown Day 2. Soda Pop Bottles stamp set and Die-Namics.

The bottles were foam mounted in place and I realised that the half-circle space on the right hand side would need a sentiment of some sort, but nothing seemed to fit! So, instead, I stamped sentiments from the Soda Pop set onto strips of black cardstock with Versamark ink and heat set with white embossing powder.

©Candles in the Garden. MFT September Release Countdown Day 2. Soda Pop Bottles stamp set and Die-Namics.

I stamped a smaller, circular sentiment from the same set onto the card front and then foam mounted the embossed sentiment strips.

To finish, I adhered a selection of sequins.

MFT August Release – Countdown Day 2

Hello there!

Welcome to another day of exciting previews from the My Favorite Things August Release!

NewReleaseCountdown_Day2

For Countdown Day 2, we’re showcasing the gorgeous Tiki Party stamp and Die-Namics sets; the Birds of Paradise stamp and Die-Namics sets; the Blissful Blooms stamp and Die-Namics sets and the Wonky Chevron Background stamp and stencil. Here’s my card:

©Candles in the Garden. MFT August Release Countdown Day 2. Blissful Blooms.

The images in Blissful Blooms are so whimsical and so easy to work with – I used them to compose a sort of half-border around a stamped sentiment. To begin with, I created a range of inky backgrounds because I knew I wanted to die-cut the various flowers out quickly from them.

©Candles in the Garden. MFT August Release Countdown Day 2. Blissful Blooms.

The inky panels were simply made by dotting some Dylusions Ink sprays onto an acrylic block, spritzing with water and stamping onto a piece of white cardstock. The colours are so intense! The were heat set so that I could work with them straight away 😉

©Candles in the Garden. MFT August Release Countdown Day 2. Blissful Blooms.

I then die-cut the flowers, stamped the co-ordinating images with Versamark ink, sprinkled with white embossing powder and heat set. I traced around one of the Double Stitched Oval STAX Die-Namics lightly with a pencil onto a card base, stamped the sentiment in the middle, and adhered the flowers down.

©Candles in the Garden. MFT August Release Countdown Day 2. Blissful Blooms.

On another piece of white cardstock, I stamped one of the bird images from Birds of Paradise and coloured it in with some ZIG Clean Color Real Brush Pens. I die-cut the bird out, foam mounted it to the card base and coated it with Glossy Accents for some shine!

©Candles in the Garden. MFT August Release Countdown Day 2. Blissful Blooms.

I also added a few dots of Glossy Accents onto the centres of the flowers – I noticed that the ink underneath seemed to change colour, which I didn’t mind at all!

MFT July Release – Countdown Day 1

Hey everyone!

Today is the fifth and final day of the July release from My Favorite Things before the new product launch, and it ends with another fabulous group of dies and stamp sets!

NewReleaseCountdown_Day1

For Countdown Day 1, we’re showcasing a cute stamp set from Miss Tiina called Things with Wings which has co-ordinating dies; the Party Patterns stamp set; the Pop-Up Birthday Die-namics; the Vintage Buttons Die-Namics and the Abstract stencil and background stamp. I’m sharing two cards with you – here’s the first:

©Candles in the Garden. MFT July Release Countdown Day 1. Pop-Up Birthday Die-Namics and Things With Wings.

I used the Pop-Up Birthday Die-Namics to create a clean, graphic and whimsical card – there are a few layers of coloured paper peeking through behind the main white panel on the front for some interest, and I can see myself reaching for these dies often!

©Candles in the Garden. MFT July Release Countdown Day 1. Pop-Up Birthday Die-Namics and Things With Wings.

I began by laying the dies out onto my work surface, grabbing the large frame die from Blueprints 25 and securing them altogether so that I could ensure all the pieces cut in the same place, across all of my pieces of paper. First, I ran the group of dies through some white cardstock, and then followed with four sheets of brightly coloured paper.

©Candles in the Garden. MFT July Release Countdown Day 1. Pop-Up Birthday Die-Namics and Things With Wings.

I then adhered all the sheets together, and popped all the die-cut sentiment pieces up, pushing through every single letter. This was a bit fiddly, but the end result is worth it, I think 😉

©Candles in the Garden. MFT July Release Countdown Day 1. Pop-Up Birthday Die-Namics and Things With Wings.

To finish, I stamped some of the adorable birds from Things with Wings and painted them with watercolours before adhering the whole thing to a kraft card base.

Here’s my second card:

©Candles in the Garden. MFT July Release Countdown Day 1. Party Patterns.

I used the equally versatile Party Patterns stamp set to create a background panel by repeatedly stamping one of the solid images with Distress Inks on a piece of white cardstock. I used the rock’n’roll technique for a gradient look across each impression.

©Candles in the Garden. MFT July Release Countdown Day 1. Party Patterns.

I then went in with black dye ink and stamped the outline images on top of the solid impressions and lightly spritzed with a mixture of Perfect Pearls and water. This piece was trimmed down to slightly smaller than the card base and foam mounted to the front.

©Candles in the Garden. MFT July Release Countdown Day 1. Party Patterns.

I stamped a sentiment from Birthday Bears onto some black cardstock with Versamark Ink, sprinkled with white embossing powder, heat set and trimmed with one of the smaller frame dies from the Cross-Stitch Rectangle STAX Die-Namics. This piece was then foam mounted to the card with a bit of twine underneath it.

©Candles in the Garden. MFT July Release Countdown Day 1. Party Patterns.

To finish, I added a couple of sequins!
