Stencilling on YUPO

Hello there!

I’m over at the Neat & Tangled blog today to sharing another card using the Geometric Circles stencil and the So Many Sentiments stamp set 😉

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled JUNE 2018

I began by creating a background panel using YUPO paper and the Geometric Circles stencil. I dropped different colours inks and paints onto the paper before laying down the stencil and adding further colour.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled JUNE 2018

I chose to leave the stencil there instead of heat setting the YUPO paper as I didn’t want it to curl up. I left it overnight to dry and then removed the stencil to reveal the gorgeous pattern on the paper. I trimmed the stencilled background panel down to slightly smaller than my card base and adhered it straight down to a white card base.

I then stamped a bunch of sentiments from the So Many Sentiments set onto strips of black cardstock, sprinkled with white embossing powder and heat set. I then foam mounted them to the card front.

To finish off, I adhered a some sequins and wood veneer embellishments.

Neat & Tangled June Release, Day 3: Magnolia

Hello, hello!

It’s the third day of the Neat & Tangled June release, and we are showcasing another fabulous stamp set!

Day 3 is for the Magnolia stamp set – here’s my card:

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled June 2018 Release. Magnolia

I wanted to see if I could create a floral arrangement with the images from this set without actually doing any detailed colouring to the images, so I looked for some offcuts from my experiments with watercolour on YUPO. I stamped the images with Archival Jet Black ink onto the YUPO and let it dry for about an hour.

I then die-cut the images out using the coordinating dies and began arranging them onto my card base. At this point, nothing seemed to be working for me, so I set the pieces aside and die-cut an oval aperture out of a panel of white cardstock.

I stamped a sentiment from the set straight down onto my card base and then foam mounted the oval aperture piece onto the card front. This acted like an anchor to hold all the die-cut magnolia images!

I arranged the pieces around the oval, allowing the sentiment to peek through. Once happy, I adhered some pieces straight down, while foam mounting others.

To finish, I adhered some sequins and flicked a few tiny gold paint splats.

Pop by the Neat & Tangled Blog to see what the rest of the DT has created – all the sets that we are showcasing this week will be available in the shop from Friday, 8 June at 8am EST!

Neat & Tangled May Release, Day 4

Hello there!

Today is the fourth day of the May release from Neat & Tangled, and its a beauty!

NT Release Graphic.jpg

Day 4 is for the Dimensional Triangles Cover Plate and here’s my card:

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled May 2018 Release. Dimensional Triangle Coverplate

Although this card took a while to put together, I had so much fun creating the background! I grabbed a large sheet of YUPO paper, and started dripping various shades of Dylusions Ink Sprays down, spreading them around with a brush. I also added some metallic paints for some sparkle!

When you’re working on YUPO paper with watcolour or inks, the results don’t seem as intensive as alcohol inks, but do persevere, as the results can surprise you! Once I’d finished adding more ink to my YUPO paper I set it aside to dry overnight.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled May 2018 Release. Dimensional Triangle Coverplate

Once dry, I cut out a piece that was big enough for my A2 sized card base, and adhered it to a piece of white cardstock for stability. I then used the Dimensional Triangles Coverplate to die-cut the wonderful, geometric design out, and foam mounted each piece onto a white card base.

I stamped a sentiment from another new set, Complementary Colors, onto a piece of black cardstock, and heat embossed in white. I foam mounted the sentiment to the card front and added some sequins to finish off.

Free Hugs Given Daily

Hello there!

I’m over at the Neat & Tangled blog today to share a card using the cute Koalifications stamp set 😉

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled February 2018

I’ve been experimenting recently with YUPO paper and watercolours after watching several videos on YouTube by the amazing Patti Tolley Parrish – she demonstrates different types of watercolour and other medium on YUPO paper and the results look phenomenal! I used one of the backgrounds I’d created as the backdrop to this card 😉

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled February 2018

I brushed various colours from my Winsor & Newton Cotman Watercolour Pocket set onto a piece of YUPO and watched the colours bleed. While the panel was still wet, I added further colour from the Finetec Pearl Metallics Palette – the effects are mesmerising, but the photos don’t do it any justice! Here’s a little snippet from my Instagram feed.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled February 2018

I put the panel aside to dry overnight and moved onto the focal element. I stamped the koala from the Koalifications set with Versafine Onyx Black ink onto a panel of white cardstock and coloured him in using Copic markers. I then stamped a sentiment from the same set into the banner area.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled February 2018

Once the YUPO piece was dry, I adhered it to the front of a white card base, fussy cut the koala out and foam mounted him to the card front.

I hope you’ll experiment with watercolours on YUPO 😉
