Neat & Tangled June Release, Day 1: So Fly

Hello everyone!

Welcome to the start of June release week for Neat & Tangled!

NT Release Graphic.jpg

Day 1 is for the cutest stamp set – So Fly – here’s my card:

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled June 2018 Release. So Fly

I began by creating a really loose watercolour sky on a piece of white cardstock, flicking a few gold paint splats and heat setting before trimming it down and foam mounting to a card base.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled June 2018 Release. So Fly

I then stamped the cute image of the giraffe and elephant onto another piece of white cardstock with Versafine Onyx Black ink, and coloured them in with ZIG Clean Color Real Brush Pens. I stamped the little dotted line on the left hand side of my sky panel to suggest where the aeroplane would have travelled and then foam mounted the die-cut piece to the card front.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled June 2018 Release. So Fly

I stamped a sentiment from the set onto a strip of black cardstock with Versamark, sprinkling with white embossing powder and heat setting.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled June 2018 Release. So Fly

I tucked the sentiment in behind the critters and foam mounted in place.

Neat & Tangled May Release, Day 3: Layered Landscapes

Hello, hello!

It’s the third day of the Neat & Tangled May release, and we are showcasing another fabulous stamp set!

NT Release Graphic.jpg

Day 3 is for the Layered Landscapes stamp set – here’s my card:

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled May 2018 Release. Layered Landscapes

There are so many ways to use this stamp set, but I gravitated back towards my rainbow range of Distress Inks and stamped the mountains randomly across an imaginary horizon on a panel of white cardstock – I made sure to overlap the colours for more variation.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled May 2018 Release. Layered Landscapes

I loosely watercoloured a sky behind the colourful mountains and a deep blue sea underneath them. I then restamped the reflections of the mountains in the sea area followed by some darker mountains in the foreground.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled May 2018 Release. Layered Landscapes

I trimmed the panel down to slightly smaller than my card base and stamped part of the sentiment into the top right hand corner with Versafine Onyx Black ink. I then foam mounted the panel onto my card base.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled May 2018 Release. Layered Landscapes

I stamped the rest of the sentiment onto a strip of black cardstock with Versamark, sprinkled white embossing powder and heat set. I foam mounted it just below the stamped sentiment.

To finish, I adhered some gold sequins.

Neat & Tangled May Release, Day 1: Hello Summer

Hello everyone!

Welcome to the start of May release week for Neat & Tangled!

NT Release Graphic.jpg

Day 1 is for a stamp set with summery sentiments and a co-ordinating die – Hello Summer – here’s my card:

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled May 2018 Release. Hello Summer

I began by creating the a loose watercolour background – I knew I wanted a sunset in the middle, so I painted washes of yellow and orange in the centre of my watercolour panel, and added lots water to spread the colour outwards.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled May 2018 Release. Hello Summer

I made sure the colour was most concentrated in the centre, and then heat set the panel. I then painted washes of blue underneath the sunset and heat set once more.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled May 2018 Release. Hello Summer

Once dry, I trimmed the panel down to slightly smaller than my card base and stamped the sunshine image and large sentiment from the set with Versafine Onyx Black ink. I also stamped the sentiment again with Delicata Golden Glitz ink for a bit of sparkle!

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled May 2018 Release. Hello Summer

I flicked some gold paint ink splats over the rest of the panel and foam mounted it to a white card base. To complete the sentiment, I stamped ‘Hello’ onto a strip of black cardstock with Versamark and covered with Gold Perfect Pearls – I wiped away excess powder using a dryer sheet and then foam mounted it to the card front.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled May 2018 Release. Hello Summer

To finish, I added some gold sequins.

Neat & Tangled April Release, Day 1: Have Courage

Hello everyone!

Welcome to the start of April release week for Neat & Tangled!

NT Release Graphic.jpg

Day 1 is for a stamp set with lovely ginko leaf images and co-ordinating sentiments – Have Courage – here’s my card:

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled April 2018 Release. Have Courage

I began by creating the watercolour style background using all the solid ginko leaf images from the set. I took a piece of watercolour paper and stamped the images repeatedly with Dylusions ink sprays, making sure to overlap some impressions.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled April 2018 Release. Have Courage

I applied the ink using the applicator from the bottle, and swiping it across the stamp. I dampened the part of the watercolour panel that I was going to stamp on with a bit of water first, and then stamped the image – this gave me lovely results, as I wasn’t looking for a clean, sharp impression.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled April 2018 Release. Have Courage

I heat set the stamped ginko leaf panel and then added detail with a black fine line marker. I also added flicked on small dots of gold paint and then heat set once more. I trimmed the panel down to slightly smaller than my card base and foam mounted to the front.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled April 2018 Release. Have Courage

I stamped a sentiment from the set onto a strip of black cardstock with Versamark, sprinkled with white embossing powder and heat set.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled April 2018 Release. Have Courage

I foam mounted the sentiment strip to the card front and tucked in a few yellow and green sequins.

Neat & Tangled March Release, Day 2: No Words

Hello again!

Time to showcase some more goodies from the Neat & Tangled March Release!

NT Release Graphic.jpg

Day 2 is for the No Words sentiment stamp set – a staple in every crafter’s stash! Here’s my card:

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled March 2018 Release. No Words

I created this free-style, watercolour floral image to support the sentiment from the set by simply taking an acrylic block, swiping it with Dylusions ink and stamping it onto a piece of watercolour paper. The blocks that I have are sort of flower shaped so they were perfect for this technique.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled March 2018 Release. No Words

I heat set the blooms and then used a sponge dauber to add the black centre detail – very rough and ready, but it did the trick! I also added more detail to the flowers using some ZIG Clean Color Real Brush Pens and in a flick like motion, drew some veins.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled March 2018 Release. No Words

I drew the stems by dragging the end of the applicator from some green Dylusions ink across the design. Again, I heat set the panel and then added a wash of colour behind the flowers so it didn’t look so stark. I also flicked on some inks for a bit of artistic detail.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled March 2018 Release. No Words

I heat set the panel one last time, trimmed it down and adhered it to a white card base. I white heat embossed the sentiment onto a piece of black cardstock and foam mounted it to the front.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled March 2018 Release. No Words

I added a couple of sequins to the design to finish off.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled February 2017 - Topography

Hello There

Hello there!

I’m over at the Neat & Tangled blog today to share a card using the Topography stamp set!

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled February 2017 - Topography

That large topographical background is soooo versatile, and you can do so many different techniques with it, as demonstrated by the DT during release week! I chose to white heat emboss it onto a panel of white cardstock before applying a wash of colour 😉

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled February 2017 - Topography

I took various ZIG Clean Color Real Brush Pens and roughly scribbled each colour at the top of the embossed panel before spritzing with water. The water allowed the colours to blend with each other, but also run down to the bottom of the panel, creating streaks of colour…

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled February 2017 - Topography

Before the colours became too watered and blended with each other I heat set the panel and trimmed it down to the same size as my card base. I adhered it straight down and set it aside to work on the next element, which was the die-cut sentiment. This was created using the Hello There die, and cut from some black cardstock a few times and adhered together to make a thicker embellishment.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled February 2017 - Topography

I adhered the die-cut element to the card front and finished off with some Gold Mix sequins.

Neat & Tangled October Release, Day 2: Beary Merry

Hello there! Time to showcase another gorgeous stamp set for the Neat & Tangled October Release!

Day 2 is for Beary Merry, and its such a cute stamp set – here’s my card:

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled October 2016 Release. Beary Merry

I created the background by stamping some of the smaller images from the set onto a watercolour panel, using black dye ink. I then trimmed it down and adhered it to a white card base.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled October 2016 Release. Beary Merry

I then stamped the large bear image from the set onto a piece of white cardstock with Versafine Onyx Black ink and then coloured him in with Distress Inks. It took some time, but I’m happy with the result.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled October 2016 Release. Beary Merry

Instead of using the co-ordinating dies, I fussy cut the bear out and set him aside. I wanted to create a snow bank for the bear to sit on so I roughly drew one on a piece of white cardstock, cut it out and sponged on some Tumbled Glass Distress Ink to the top. I then stamped a sentiment onto the snow bank before foam mounting it to the card front.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled October 2016 Release. Beary Merry

The snow bank was perfect for the fussy-cut, Distress Ink’d bear when I foam mounted him to the card front too! To finish up, I added a couple of sequins.

Be sure to check out the Neat & Tangled Blog to see what the rest of the DT has created – there’s also a giveaway! All the sets that we are showcasing this week will be released on Friday, 14 October at 8am EST!

Pixie Paints and Stencils

Hey there,

Just popping by to share a card for the Neat & Tangled collaboration with Cosmo Cricket, and their amazing Pixie Paints. These little bottles of coloured powder pack a huge punch and I had so much fun playing with them:

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled collaboration with Cosmo Cricket. Pixie Paints and stencils

I began by creating a fun background panel – firstly, I spritzed a piece of lightweight watercolour paper with water, then laid down the Geometric Blooms stencil on top before tapping out some of the Harbor coloured Pixie Paint.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled collaboration with Cosmo Cricket. Pixie Paints and stencils

The paint reacted beautifully with the stencil and the water – I removed the stencil and spritzed a little more water to move the paint around a bit more, and heat set the panel when I was happy.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled collaboration with Cosmo Cricket. Pixie Paints and stencils

I trimmed the panel down and foam mounted to a white card base before stamping the skunk from the Little Stinker set with Versafine Onyx Black ink, all ready to colour in!

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled collaboration with Cosmo Cricket. Pixie Paints and stencils

I used some ZIG Clean Color Real Brush Pens to colour in the little animal, stamped a sentiment from the same set, trimmed him out and foam mounted him to the card front.

To finish off, I added some sequins from the Gold Mix selection. I hope you’ll stop by the Neat & Tangled blog for more inspiration!
