I like you ever so much

Hello there!

I’m over at the Neat & Tangled blog today to share a card using the Geometric Circles stencil, the Get Yeti stamp set and the So Many Sentiments stamp set 😉

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled April 2018

I began by stamping the yeti image from the Get Yeti set with Versafine Onyx Black ink on to a piece of white cardstock, and then coloured him in using some ZIG Clean Color Real Brush Pens.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled April 2018

I then fussy-cut him out and set him aside to work on my card base. I laid down the Geometric Circles stencil onto a white card base and roughly passed some embossing paste through it onto the surface. I lifted the stencil away to reveal the lovely pattern and before the embossing paste dried, I quickly flicked some gold paint onto the card base for some added interest.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled April 2018

I stamped a sentiment from So Many Sentiments onto a strip of black cardstock, and foam mounted it and the yeti to the card front.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled April 2018

To finish off, I adhered a mixture of sequins from the Like Magic Sequin Mix and the Mermaid Tail Sequin Mix.

Neat & Tangled February Release, Day 3: Interlocking Geo Stencil and Die

Hello there!

Today is the third day of the February release from Neat & Tangled, and its a beauty!

NT Release Graphic.jpg

Day 3 is for the Interlocking Geo stencil and die, and they are absolutely fabulous, especially if you like creating geometric looking cards!

Here’s my card using the stencil:

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled February 2018 Release. Interlocking Geo Stencil

I used one of my favourite techniques for this one – I added droplets of yellow and blue Dylusions ink sprays onto a large acrylic block, then heavily spritzed a piece of watercolour cardstock with water. Whilst the panel was wet, I laid the stencil on top, then flipped the acrylic block on top very quickly, allowing the ink to seep through to the damp watercolour panel.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled February 2018 Release. Interlocking Geo Stencil

I slid the block up and down while it was face down on the stencil to get the inks to move and blend. When I was happy, I removed the block and the stencil, and heat set the watercolour panel.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled February 2018 Release. Interlocking Geo Stencil

Once dry, I trimmed the panel down and adhered it to a white card base. I added a wood veneer cupcake and a sentiment from the So Many Sentiments set.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled February 2018 Release. Interlocking Geo Stencil

I also added some wood veneer stars to finish off the design 😉

Here’s my card using the die:

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled February 2018 Release. Interlocking Geo Die

I’ve always enjoyed inlaid die-cutting but I wanted to try something a little different using the Interlocking Geo die for this card. So I began by adhering some double-sided tape to a panel of white cardstock and then running it through my die-cutting machine with the die.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled February 2018 Release. Interlocking Geo Die

While all the pieces were in place, I carefully removed the die-cut panel from the die and adhered it down to a white card base. This gives the impression of an embossed panel without embossing anything!

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled February 2018 Release. Interlocking Geo Die

I then ran the die through again with different coloured sheets of paper so that I could make the pattern in the centre of the card pop. I did this by adding small dots of glue to the pointed areas of the tiny shapes and adhering the coloured pieces in place. I curved each piece up to create a 3D look.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled February 2018 Release. Interlocking Geo Die

I added a sentiment from So Many Sentiments and finished of the design with some matching gemstones.

I hope you’re enjoying the February Release so far! Be sure to visit the Neat & Tangled Blog to see what the rest of the DT has created – all the sets that we are showcasing this week will be released on Friday, 9 February at 8am EST in the shop!

Merry Christmas

Hello there!

I’m over at the Neat & Tangled blog today to share a card using a combination of stencils, stamps and dies 😉

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled December 2017

I created this vibrant background using the Radiating Star stencil and some ZIG Clean Color Real Brush Pens – I simply taped down a panel of white cardstock to my work surface and then laid the stencil down on top, again securing with a bit of washitape.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled December 2017

I picked some vibrant ZIG Clean Color Real Brush Pens and very roughly brushed through the stencil and onto the cardstock. While the stencil was still in place, I heavily misted the the panel with water until the colours started to blend and bleed. After a few seconds, I carefully lifted the stencil away revealing this awesome background, heat set the panel and trimmed down to slightly smaller than my card base.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled December 2017

I foam mounted the background panel to the card base and moved on to the next step. Using the Stitched Slopes dies, I created a couple of snow banks – I added a touch of Tumbled Glass Distress Ink to the hill tops so that they would stand out against the vibrant coloured background. I foam mounted one snow bank straight down onto the card front and stamped a couple of sentiments from Christmas Pageant onto the other.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled December 2017

I foam mounted the second snow bank onto the card front and then die-cut some house and tree elements using the Warm Winter Scene Cover Plate. I adhered these between the snow banks and finished with some sequins from the Snowfall Sequin Mix.

I hope you have as much fun as I did combining stencils, stamps and dies!

Thank you for always being there

Hello there!

I’m over at the Neat & Tangled blog today to share a card using the Polygon Stencil 😉

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled May 2017 - Polygon Stencil

I took out my Dylusions Ink Sprays and Antiqued Bronze Distress Stain for a cool effect, with minimal effort! I began by adding droplets of blue and green Dylusions to a large acrylic block until the whole things was covered – the more droplets you add, the richer the end result.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled May 2017 - Polygon Stencil

I then heavily misted a piece of watercolour paper with water until it was fairly saturated before laying the stencil on top, and stamping the inky acrylic block straight down into the watery puddles. I jiggled the block around a bit to help spread the colour through the stencil.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled May 2017 - Polygon Stencil

I gently removed the acrylic block and while the stencil was still in place, I smooshed the Distress Stain sporadically through it and onto the damp watercolour piece. I slowly removed the stencil, mopped up any excess moisture and quickly heat set the panel.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled May 2017 - Polygon Stencil

Once dried, I trimmed the panel down and foam mounted it to a white card base. I stamped a sentiment from the Scandinavian Prints set with black dye ink onto a strip of white cardstock and foam mounted it to the card front with a few vellum, die-cut leaves underneath. To finish, I added some sequins from the Ocean Waves sequin mix.

Neat & Tangled November Release, Day 3: Star Coverplate and Stencil

Hello, hello!

It’s the third day of the Neat & Tangled November release, and we are showcasing some more fabulous products!

NT Release Graphic.jpg

Day 3 is for the Star Coverplate and Stencil, both equally as gorgeous as each other. I played with the coverplate to whip up a simple birthday card:

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled November 2016 Release. Star Coverplate.

I began by creating a Distress Ink background and heat set to dry. I then ran the Star coverplate through my die-cutting machine three times with white cardstock and glued each piece together to form a thicker embellishment.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled November 2016 Release. Star Coverplate.

I then trimmed a section out of the centre and adhered it to the Distress Ink panel. I foam mounted this to a white card base and then used the Journalling Alpha Numbers to die-cut the 45 and adhered it down.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled November 2016 Release. Star Coverplate.

I also ran the coverplate through some Copper foil cardstock and used some of the pieces to fill in the design on the card front.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled November 2016 Release. Star Coverplate.

To finish up, I sprinkled with a few Merlot Mix sequins. Here’s my second card, this time using the Star Stencil:

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled November 2016 Release. Star Stencil.

I taped the stencil down on top of a panel of white cardstock and simply sponged through two shades of Distress Ink, being careful not to take the ink all the way to the edges.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled November 2016 Release. Star Stencil.

I then adhered the panel down to a white card base and looked for matching pattern paper for the tree embellishments. These were die-cut using the Scandinavian Christmas Prints dies and foam mounted to the card front.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled November 2016 Release. Star Stencil.

The sentiment comes from the co-ordinating Scandinavian Christmas Prints set and was stamped with Versamark onto a piece of black cardstock, sprinkled with white embossing powder and heat set.

The sentiment was trimmed down and also foam mounted to the card front. To finish, I added some Gold Mix sequins.

Neat & Tangled November Release, Day 1: Merry & Bright

Hello everyone!

Welcome to the start of November release week for Neat & Tangled!

NT Release Graphic.jpg

For Day 1, I’m showcasing the new Merry & Bright die – here’s my first card:

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled November 2016 Release. Merry and Bright Die.

I began by creating a watercolour background using a flower shaped acrylic block. I covered the block with some spots of Dylusions Ink sprays and stamped straight down onto a panel of white cardstock. Before removing the block, I misted lightly with water to help the ink run a little.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled November 2016 Release. Merry and Bright Die.

On lifting the acrylic block, the ink that was trapped underneath began to spread, so I quickly heat set the panel. I used a paper towel to mop up any excess ink.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled November 2016 Release. Merry and Bright Die.

Once the panel was dry, I used the new Star stencil to create a subtle texture over the watercolour blob – I laid it down and pounced some Versamark Ink through to the panel underneath. I removed the stencil and the lightly brushed over some Gold Perfect Pearls.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled November 2016 Release. Merry and Bright Die.

Once I was happy, I trimmed the panel down and mounted it to a white card base. I then die-cut the Merry & Bright sentiment three times out of some white cardstock, adhered them together to create a thicker embellishment and adhered it to the card front. To finish, I added a couple of sequins from the Gold Mix selection. Here’s my second card:

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled November 2016 Release. Merry and Bright Die.

I did a little double partial die-cutting with this one using a couple of circle dies to create the outer ring so that the sequins can peek through 😉

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled November 2016 Release. Merry and Bright Die.

I partially die-cut the circle elements out of a panel of white cardstock before moving on to die-cutting the sentiment from the middle, holding on to all the small pieces within the letters.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled November 2016 Release. Merry and Bright Die.

I then proceeded to turn the die-cut panel into a shaker card, filling it with the Gold Dust Sparkly Shaker Mix from Lucy’s Little Things.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled November 2016 Release. Merry and Bright Die.

After foam mounting the shaker element to a white card base, I also added a few ink splats using some gold watercolour paint.

Double stencilling

Hello there!

I’m over at the Neat & Tangled blog today to share a card using one of my favourite stencils – Hexastar!

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled October 2016 - Hexastar.

I took a piece of kraft cardstock, laid down the Hexastar Stencil, and simply pounced some white pigment ink through the openings and onto the kraft.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled October 2016 - Hexastar.

I removed the stencil to reveal the pattern, and heat set the pigment ink. I then laid the stencil down, in exactly the same place as it was before, but slightly offset it.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled October 2016 - Hexastar.

This time, I pounced through various shades of Distress Ink. I removed the stencil once more and allowed my kraft cardstock panel to dry before trimming down.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled October 2016 - Hexastar.

I die-cut a banner shape out of the kraft piece once it had dried and then stamped part of the sentiment from Into the Woods straight down onto a white card base. I foam mounted the kraft piece on to the card front and stamped the additional part of the sentiment onto some black cardstock with Versamark ink. I sprinkled with white embossing powder and heat set.

The sentiment was then die-cut out using the banner die from the Scalloped die set and foam mounted to the card front. To finish off, I added some of my favourite gold mix sequins 😉

Pixie Paints and Stencils

Hey there,

Just popping by to share a card for the Neat & Tangled collaboration with Cosmo Cricket, and their amazing Pixie Paints. These little bottles of coloured powder pack a huge punch and I had so much fun playing with them:

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled collaboration with Cosmo Cricket. Pixie Paints and stencils

I began by creating a fun background panel – firstly, I spritzed a piece of lightweight watercolour paper with water, then laid down the Geometric Blooms stencil on top before tapping out some of the Harbor coloured Pixie Paint.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled collaboration with Cosmo Cricket. Pixie Paints and stencils

The paint reacted beautifully with the stencil and the water – I removed the stencil and spritzed a little more water to move the paint around a bit more, and heat set the panel when I was happy.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled collaboration with Cosmo Cricket. Pixie Paints and stencils

I trimmed the panel down and foam mounted to a white card base before stamping the skunk from the Little Stinker set with Versafine Onyx Black ink, all ready to colour in!

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled collaboration with Cosmo Cricket. Pixie Paints and stencils

I used some ZIG Clean Color Real Brush Pens to colour in the little animal, stamped a sentiment from the same set, trimmed him out and foam mounted him to the card front.

To finish off, I added some sequins from the Gold Mix selection. I hope you’ll stop by the Neat & Tangled blog for more inspiration!

Thanks for looking 😉

Neat and Tangled – July Release projects

Hello there! Just popping by to share some cards for the Neat & Tangled July Release – there’s a great selection from this month’s release, and I’ve experimented with a few techniques that I hope will inspire you!

I’ve seen the watercolour trend showing up more in more in the card making world, and so I wanted to try a technique using Distress Inks and water.

For this first card, I stamped the shapes from Hello You in Picked Raspberry, Festive Berries, Shaded Lilac, Peacock Feathers and Salty Ocean all over a panel of white cardstock. I left a blank space in the centre for the sentiment.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled July 2016 Release.

I then took a damp brush and went over the stamped areas with water, sometimes using a light touch and sometimes slightly heavier. I liked how quickly the water seemed to dry in some areas, allowing me add more colour and more water to create a sense of movement.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled July 2016 Release.

I heat set the panel and then stamped the large sentiment from the same set with Versamark Onyx Black ink in the centre. I trimmed the panel down to the same size as my card base and adhered it straight down.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled July 2016 Release.

I added a few sequins and some gold splatters to finish up. For my second card, I took the speech bubble die from Square Thoughts and die-cut it several times from a panel of white cardstock.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled July 2016 Release.

I held on to all the centre pieces that get cut out with the die so that I could adhere them all back in place. First, I took an inky panel from my stash and adhered it down to a white card base, and then I foam mounted the die-cut panel in place.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled July 2016 Release.

I also die-cut the fractal heart shape using the Heart of Gold die and adhered that to the front of the card. The sentiment comes from the matching Square Thoughts stamp set and was white heat embossed onto a strip of black cardstock before being foam mounted to the front.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled July 2016 Release.

For my last card, I took the Geometric Blooms stencil, laid it onto a panel of white cardstock and swiped through some embossing paste. While the stencil was still in place, I also spritzed some Funky Fuschia Dylusions Ink spray.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled July 2016 Release.

I removed the stencil and set the panel aside to dry while I worked on the focal element. I stamped the cat from Kitty’s Favorite Things onto a piece of white cardstock and coloured him in with Copic markers.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled July 2016 Release.

After my embossed panel had dried, I trimmed it down and foam mounted it to a card base. I die-cut the cat out using the matching die and also foam mounted it to the card front. I had added a little slit beneath his right paw so that I could tuck the sentiment banner underneath.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled July 2016 Release.

The sentiment banner was die-cut using the die from Kitty’s Favorite Things and a sentiment from Succulent Journaling Card was heat embossed in white. To finish, I added a few gold sequins.

Thanks for looking!

Stenciling with Perfect Pearls

Hello there!

I’m over at the Neat & Tangled blog today to share a card using the gorgeous Hexastar Stencil from the May Release!

©Candles in the Garden. May 2016 Neat and Tangled post. Hexastar Stencil and Perfect Pearls.

I love the geometric design of this stencil and can see myself reaching for it again and again to create awesome backgrounds! This card took no time at all to put together – I began by laying the stencil down onto some dark coloured cardstock and stamping all over with the Versamark Ink pad.

©Candles in the Garden. May 2016 Neat and Tangled post. Hexastar Stencil and Perfect Pearls.

I lifted the stencil away and brushed some gold Perfect Pearls over the sticky areas – I didn’t mind the unevenness of my stamping (near the edges), as it give the overall look a sense of depth.

©Candles in the Garden. May 2016 Neat and Tangled post. Hexastar Stencil and Perfect Pearls.

I gently wiped any excess Perfect Pearls with a dryer sheet and trimmed the panel down to slightly smaller than my card base. Before foam mounting the panel, I swiped the Versamark Ink pad along all four edges of the card base, and again brush with the Perfect Pearls. This gave me a nice matching border…

©Candles in the Garden. May 2016 Neat and Tangled post. Hexastar Stencil and Perfect Pearls.

I wanted to keep the sentiment simple so that the focal panel could really be the star of this card, so I stamped one from the Origami Map set onto a strip of the same dark cardstock with Versamark, sprinkled with gold embossing powder and heat set. I trimmed the sentiment piece down and foam mounted it to the card front.

©Candles in the Garden. May 2016 Neat and Tangled post. Hexastar Stencil and Perfect Pearls.

To finish, I added a selection of Summer Sun and Gold Mix sequins.

Thanks for stopping by!
