Neat & Tangled January Release, Day 2: Beaver Eh?

Hello again!

Time to showcase some more goodies from the Neat & Tangled January Release!

NT Release Graphic.jpg

Day 2 is for the Beaver Eh? stamp and co-ordinating die set – they are totally adorable! Here’s my card:

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled January 2018 Release. Beaver Eh? Stamp set and Die.

I did a bit of double partial die-cutting on this one, a technique I’ve used before on this card – the result is a single panel which has been created using two dies. I then stamped one of the beavers from the stamp set in place followed by a sentiment beneath him.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled January 2018 Release. Beaver Eh? Stamp set and Die.

I coloured the beaver in with copic markers – I only have the set of 36 which seems to have enough of a range for me to colour him this way. I also stamped and coloured the little birdie from the set in the same way and set both pieces aside.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled January 2018 Release. Beaver Eh? Stamp set and Die.

On the front of my white card base, I blended two shades of Distress Ink to create a background for the beaver to sit against. I also added a couple of droplets of water on the inky areas for some interest. Once I was happy, I foam mounted the beaver panel to the card base along with the bird die-cut.

At this point, I felt the card looked a little plain, so I added a few sequins from the Jewel Tones sequins mix.

Neat and Tangled – July Release projects

Hello there! Just popping by to share some cards for the Neat & Tangled July Release – there’s a great selection from this month’s release, and I’ve experimented with a few techniques that I hope will inspire you!

I’ve seen the watercolour trend showing up more in more in the card making world, and so I wanted to try a technique using Distress Inks and water.

For this first card, I stamped the shapes from Hello You in Picked Raspberry, Festive Berries, Shaded Lilac, Peacock Feathers and Salty Ocean all over a panel of white cardstock. I left a blank space in the centre for the sentiment.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled July 2016 Release.

I then took a damp brush and went over the stamped areas with water, sometimes using a light touch and sometimes slightly heavier. I liked how quickly the water seemed to dry in some areas, allowing me add more colour and more water to create a sense of movement.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled July 2016 Release.

I heat set the panel and then stamped the large sentiment from the same set with Versamark Onyx Black ink in the centre. I trimmed the panel down to the same size as my card base and adhered it straight down.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled July 2016 Release.

I added a few sequins and some gold splatters to finish up. For my second card, I took the speech bubble die from Square Thoughts and die-cut it several times from a panel of white cardstock.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled July 2016 Release.

I held on to all the centre pieces that get cut out with the die so that I could adhere them all back in place. First, I took an inky panel from my stash and adhered it down to a white card base, and then I foam mounted the die-cut panel in place.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled July 2016 Release.

I also die-cut the fractal heart shape using the Heart of Gold die and adhered that to the front of the card. The sentiment comes from the matching Square Thoughts stamp set and was white heat embossed onto a strip of black cardstock before being foam mounted to the front.

For my last card, I took the Geometric Blooms stencil, laid it onto a panel of white cardstock and swiped through some embossing paste. While the stencil was still in place, I also spritzed some Funky Fuschia Dylusions Ink spray.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled July 2016 Release.

I removed the stencil and set the panel aside to dry while I worked on the focal element. I stamped the cat from Kitty’s Favorite Things onto a piece of white cardstock and coloured him in with Copic markers.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled July 2016 Release.

After my embossed panel had dried, I trimmed it down and foam mounted it to a card base. I die-cut the cat out using the matching die and also foam mounted it to the card front. I had added a little slit beneath his right paw so that I could tuck the sentiment banner underneath.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled July 2016 Release.

The sentiment banner was die-cut using the die from Kitty’s Favorite Things and a sentiment from Succulent Journaling Card was heat embossed in white. To finish, I added a few gold sequins.

Neat & Tangled July Release, Day 5

Hey everyone!

Today is the fifth and final day of the July release from Neat & Tangled, and it ends with two fabulous stamp sets!

NT Release Graphic.jpg

Day 5 is for Woof, a 6×4″ stamp set designed by the hugely talented May Sukyong Park and if you’re a fan of dogs, you’re going to love it! The second stamp set is No Nuts:

Here’s the card I made using May’s set:

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled JULY15 Release - Day 5, Woof

I’m really into background washes at the moment and seem to create a pile of them just ready to use as and when you need them – the one on this card is no different, and simply uses a reinker dotted onto a sheet of acetate and spritzed with water. The inky goodness is then transferred to a piece of cardstock and heat set.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled JULY15 Release - Day 5, Woof

I trimmed the coloured panel down to slightly smaller than my card base, adhered it straight down to a card base and foam mounted a hill at the bottom. I then moved on to colouring one of the sweet dog images from the set – first, I stamped him with Archival Jet Black ink and then used Distress Inks to colour him.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled JULY15 Release - Day 5, Woof

I then fussy-cut the dog out and foam mounted him to the card and above the hill to make it look like he was sitting on it, dreaming about bones!

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled JULY15 Release - Day 5, Woof

I stamped a sentiment and a small heart from the set with black ink onto the hill, and stamped the speech bubble on to a piece of scrap cardstock. The bone was stamped onto some light coloured pattern paper and both that and the speech bubble were fussy-cut out and adhered to the card front. The heart was coloured in with Copics and brushed with clear Wink of Stella for some sparkle.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled JULY15 Release - Day 5, Woof

After applying more clear Wink of Stella to the bone, I added a coat of Glossy Accents to it and to the heart. To finish, I added a couple of sequins from the Sunset Shimmer sequin mix.

Pop by the Neat & Tangled Blog to see what the rest of the DT has created – all the sets that we have showcased this week are now available in the shop!

Neat & Tangled July Release, Day 4: Hand Stitched

Hello there!

Today is the fourth day of the July release from Neat & Tangled, and its a beauty!

NT Release Graphic.jpg

Day 4 is for the Hand Stitched stamp set and co-ordinating die, but you can also pair it up with the Hoop die from the May Release! There’s some really cute images that can be coloured with Copics, Distress Inks or watercolour paints.

Here’s my card:

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled JULY15 Release - Day 4, Hand Stitched

I took a piece of cardstock and loosely applied some watercolour washes to it using reinkers. I then heat set it and adhered it directly to a white card base.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled JULY15 Release - Day 4, Hand Stitched

I then stamped the partial wreath images with black ink a couple of times, die-cut them using the co-ordinating dies and coloured them in with Copics. I also added a coating of clear Wink of Stella on the flowers for a bit of sparkle.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled JULY15 Release - Day 4, Hand Stitched

I then die-cut the Hello There sentiment once from a dark blue cardstock and a few times from some white cardstock. These were all layered together to form a thicker embellishment that was adhered to the centre of the card.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled JULY15 Release - Day 4, Hand Stitched

I foam mounted the die-cut wreathes on either side of the sentiment to finish up the card. You could so easily create a set of notecards using these wonderful products!

Runway Inspired Challenge #85

Hello there – just popping by to share the card I made for this week’s Runway Inspired Challenge. We have another awesome inspiration photo and the chance to win a prize from our fabulous sponsor Winnie & Walter.

j-crew-030-1366ric#85

Here’s my card:

©Candles in the Garden. RIC85 - Sponsored by Winnie and Walter.

I began by stamping the outline leafy canopy image from A Tree for All Seasons onto a piece of white cardstock with Memento Tuxedo Black ink. I then stamped the tree from the same set on top of the canopy image.

©Candles in the Garden. RIC85 - Sponsored by Winnie and Walter.

I coloured the leaves with various Copic markers. I used a light blue marker around the outside of the tree, echoing the model’s outfit. I then added some Diamond Stickles to the leaves and set aside to dry.

©Candles in the Garden. RIC85 - Sponsored by Winnie and Walter.

I used the largest frame die from Essentials: Katharine Cutaways to trim a panel of cardstock down to slightly smaller than my card base, and then used a circle die to die-cut an aperture, through which you would see the sparkly tree!

©Candles in the Garden. RIC85 - Sponsored by Winnie and Walter.

I partially stamped the same tree onto the die-cut panel so that it would look like the image was continuing, and added a sentiment beneath it. I adhered a piece of acetate to the back of the aperture and added lots of foam tape around it and on the back of the panel so that I could create a shaker card.

©Candles in the Garden. RIC85 - Sponsored by Winnie and Walter.

Once the coloured tree image was dry, I stuck it straight down onto a card base and brushed it lightly with my powder tool, as my shaker would be made up of glitter and sequins – I didn’t want the glitter to cling where it shouldn’t! I foam mounted the die-cut panel on top, ensuring the trees lined up.

To finish, I added some sequins and enamel dots.

Be sure to stop by the Runway Inspired Challenge blog for more inspiration from the rest of the DT members and play along for the chance to win! I also wanted to welcome our newest team member Heather Hoffman from House’s Built of Cards – this girl is amazingly talented and we’re please to have her on the DT!

Winnie and Walter January Release, Day 4

Hey everyone!

Today is the fourth and final day of the January release from Winnie & Walter, and it ends with another fabulous mix of stamp and die sets!

january-release-image

Day 4 is the premiere of Scenery: The Party Hangover, The Party, Goldie Trim Cutaways and Lulu Fringe Cutaways (these names are so cool in themselves, don’t you think?!). Here’s my card:

©Candles in the Garden. Winnie and Walter JAN15 Release. The Party.

You might recognise the donut images from Sugar Rush, which was the awesome stamp set being showcased yesterday. I chose to create a background with it by repeatedly stamping it with black ink and then colouring with a mixture of Copics and Distress Inks.

©Candles in the Garden. Winnie and Walter JAN15 Release. The Party.

I then went over each donut with Diamond Stickles for that little bit of extra shine! The stars come from the same set, but the large sentiment is from The Party. Here’s a closeup of the donuts:

©Candles in the Garden. Winnie and Walter JAN15 Release. The Party.

The sentiment was heat embossed in white on black cardstock, trimmed and foam mounted to the card front at an angle.

I almost embellished further with some sequins or wood veneers but decided against it and left it there!

Runway Inspired Challenge #74

Hello there and welcome to this week’s Runway Inspired Challenge! We have another awesome inspiration photo and the chance to win a prize from Ellen Hutson.

Escada_020_1366

I had so many ideas for this one (watercolour, distress inks, colour blocking) but decided to go with some heat embossing / resist. Here’s my card:

©Candles in the Garden. RIC74. Inlaid die-cutting and embellished butterfly (Wink of Stella and Glossy Accents).

I began by stamping the various doily images from WPlus9’s Damask Doilies set onto a piece of white cardstock with Versamark Ink. I sprinkled with white embossing powder and heat set.

©Candles in the Garden. RIC74. Inlaid die-cutting and embellished butterfly (Wink of Stella and Glossy Accents).

I then made a few puddles of ink on my craft mat with Spiced Marmalade and Wild Honey Distress Inks, spritzed with water and laid the embossed cardstock into it. I repeated this process until the non-heat embossed areas were saturated with colour.

©Candles in the Garden. RIC74. Inlaid die-cutting and embellished butterfly (Wink of Stella and Glossy Accents).

Once the panel was dry, I sponged some Delicata Golden Glitz ink over the doilies for a bit of added sparkle (looks great in real life, but I couldn’t pick it up in my photos!). To clean up, I wiped off the excess ink from the embossed areas. I trimmed the panel at an angle and die-cut the word ‘Grateful’ using Penny Black’s Words of Gratitude.

©Candles in the Garden. RIC74. Inlaid die-cutting and embellished butterfly (Wink of Stella and Glossy Accents).

I used the same die to cut the word out of some brown shimmer cardstock a few times and adhered them together to create a thicker die-cut. The embossed / coloured panel was adhered straight down onto a white card base and then slotted the die-cut word into place.

©Candles in the Garden. RIC74. Inlaid die-cutting and embellished butterfly (Wink of Stella and Glossy Accents).

To finish up, I added a wood veneer butterfly, which was first coloured with co-ordinating Copic markers. I then went over it with some clear Wink of Stella before adding a generous amount of Glossy Accents. This gives you a really cute, epoxy resin like embellishment!

Neat & Tangled September Release, Day 5: Turkey Talk

Hey everyone!

Today is the fifth and final day of the September release from Neat & Tangled, and it ends with such a cute stamp set!

Day 5 is for Turkey Talk, and include this adorable image of a turkey – perfect for any time of colouring!

NTTurkey

This set comes with co-ordinating dies and I wanted to try a partial die-cutting technique that Laura Bassen demonstrates so beautifully here. Here’s my card:

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled SEP14 Release - Day 5. Turkey Talk.

After I’d done the partial die-cutting around the turkey, I coloured him in with some copic markers.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled SEP14 Release - Day 5. Turkey Talk.

I covered him with a layer of clear Wink of Stella, but I couldn’t get a good shot of it – looks great in real life!

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled SEP14 Release - Day 5. Turkey Talk.

I took a white card base and created a background by blending together Peacock Feathers and Salty Ocean Distress Inks. Then I flicked (or spilt more like 🙂 ) some water onto the card for some interest. The turkey panel was foam mounted to the card based allowing the background to peek through!

I finished up by stamping a sentiment from the new set in the corner.

Neat & Tangled September Release, Day 2: Be Full

Hello there! Time to showcase another gorgeous stamp set for the Neat & Tangled September Release!

10366022_775439453031_1521889152160037215_n

Day 2 is for Be Full, which features a wonderful sentiment and pumpkin illustration.

Print

The great thing about this is that the sentiment and pumpkin images are separate, so you don’t have to do any surgery to your stamps 😉 Here’s my card:

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled SEP14 Release - Day 2. Be Full.

I recently purchased a set of Copic Markers but hadn’t really broken them out…until now! I repeatedly stamped the pumpkin with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and used the markers to colour it in.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled SEP14 Release - Day 2. Be Full.

The blending is by no means perfect, but this was my very first attempt at introducing Copics on my cards 😉 I outlined the pumpkins with a light grey marker to make them stand out slightly.

©Candles in the Garden. Neat and Tangled SEP14 Release - Day 2. Be Full.

I dotted Xmas Red Stickles on the berries for some added interest – I was really happy with the way the background had turned out so far, and almost didn’t want to do anything else with the card! The sentiment comes from another new release set (being showcased tomorrow!). I added a strip of red metallic cardstock under the sentiment strip to match the stickles.
